RUN TO HONOR 5K, ARMY TEN-MILER

Bill Bengtson / Fort Gordon Public Affairs Office Bill Bengtson / Fort Gordon Public Affairs Office Runners, joggers, walkers and other travelers gathered for some morning mileage near Barton Field May 5, taking part in the Army Ten-Miler or (a few minutes later) the Run to Honor 5K. Both events had Rice Road, near Woodworth Library, as their starting and finishing points. The 10-mile run is a qualifier for a national event: the Army Ten-Miler, set for Oct. 7 in Washington, D.C. The five-kilometer event is promoted as a chance for participants to honor special people in their lives who are their heroes or have made special sacrifices. Johnny Carrera, an Army retiree, has plenty of company a few yards behind him as he strides out the final straightaway in Saturday morning’s five-kilometer run.
