Christmas House

The Christmas House will be accepting applications through Oct. 31. Eligible families are those E1 to E6 active duty stationed at Fort Gordon, unaccompanied families, Reserve and National Guard who are currently mobilized or activated for more than 30 days. Applications are available online at www.fortgordon.com/acs. Completed applications should be turned into your unit representative no later than Oct. 31. The Christmas House opening ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 16 in Bldg. 39109.

Fall Festival

The Fort Gordon Fall Fest and Flea Market is scheduled for today, Saturday and Sunday on Barton Field. The festival will feature live music and a large carnival. Today will feature German-themed entertainment, fall activities, food and craft vendors. On Saturday, the Flea Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All other event activities begin at 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. The carnival will be open Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.fortgordon.com. AFAP Conference

Voice your concerns at the Army Family Action Plan Annual Conference scheduled Oct. 3 and 4. The conference will be in Darling Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Submit your concerns electronically at www.fortgordon.com/afap.

Job Fair

Job seekers are invited to attend the Fort Gordon Job Fair on Oct. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the U.S. Army Reserve

Center, located at Lane Avenue and 15th Street. Transitioning service members and their spouses are highly encouraged to attend as part of their transition preparation which provides access to employers and to network employment opportunities. Fire Prevention Week

Every year, fire departments around the nation celebrate Fire Prevention Week, which is celebrated during the week that encompasses Oct. 9, the anniversary date of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The importance of this tragic event brought national attention to the prevention of fires and implementation of public fire education and fire prevention. Fort Gordon Fire and Emergency Services will celebrate Oct. 8-14 with events set up at various locations such as a visit to Freedom Park School, a visit to the fire station by the CYS children, a display at the AAFES PX, a display at the Whitelaw Complex, and a display at DDEAMC. New DFAC opening

Come celebrate the grand opening

Innovation Day

The Cyberspace and Electronic Warfare Innovation Day is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Gordon’s Conference and Catering Center. All military, civilian, and contractor personnel are invited to attend. This free event will offer educational Tech Talks and CEU’s will be awarded for participation. The sessions are free but seating is limited. Paint Me Pretty

Halloween Paint Me Pretty is set for Oct. 13 at Hilltop Riding Stables. Pre-registration is required by Oct. 11. The cost is $35 per person and covers all supplies, light appetizers and beverages. Golf Trifecta

Tee in for fall at the Gordon Lakes Golf Club Fall Trifecta on Oct. 14. Two-person teams will complete a 6-hole scramble, 6 holes better ball and 6 holes select drive/alternate shot. Entry includes Golf rounds, carts and lunch. Flights will be organized by total age of team; Eagle Flight is for the youngest third of teams, Birdie Flight is for the middle-aged teams and Par Flight is for the eldest third of teams. Retiree Appreciation

Retiree Appreciation Day is scheduled to be held on Nov. 4. Note that reservations are required for the lunch and must be made by Oct. 17. Only reservations will be taken in advance, money for the lunch will be accepted at the door. The price of lunch is $10. Parents Night Out

Take an evening off for Parents’ Night Out. Child and Youth Services is offering to watch the kids during a parents’ night out for select dates each month from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Children who are 6 weeks to 12 years old, who are registered with CYS can participate. Garden Club

Join the Garden Club and show off your green thumb or learn some new tips and tricks to use in your own little plot of heaven. Club meetings are every third Thursday of the month at the Woodworth Consolidated Library from 5 to 6 p.m. Topics cover everything from planning your garden to keeping the pests off your produce and how to preserve your harvest. Horse stable volunteers

Sign up for the Hilltop Riding Stables volunteer class. This will teach you what you need to begin volunteering at the stables and the skills to care for horses. The class will be held Saturdays and Sundays and is open to ages 14 and older. For more information or to sign up, call (706)791-4864.

U-DO-IT store

The U-DO-IT Store is located at the Brems Barracks area in building 40101. Customer service hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding federal holidays. The store stocks parts and materials necessary for units and activities to complete minor maintenance and repair of their assigned facilities. To receive items from the store, individuals must have successfully completed the U-DO-IT training course that is conducted the first Wednesday of each month beginning at 8 a.m. and listed on DA Form 1687 (Notice of Delegation of Authority- Receipt for Supplies). The class is conducted on a walk-in basis with no prior registration required. U-DO-IT representatives can be reached at (706)791-3942/7683.

Ladies golf

Auto classes

Free automotive care classes are available to all military, retirees, spouses, family members and DOD civilians. Dependents must be age 16 and older. Classes are on an introductory level and are intended to familiarize individuals with various car problems such as brake and tire inspection, AC system and other common problems.
