Morale Call

Thunder Over Evans

Run to Honor set

The Run to Honor is a Fort Gordon tradition where runners and walkers honor special people in their lives, their heroes or have made special sacrifices. Dinner Theatre

Homebuyer seminar

Marriage enrichment series

The Army Community Services Marriage and Relationship Enrichment Seminar Series continues Thursday. Each session covers a new topic. The seminar meets in the Family Outreach Center from 5-7 p.m. For more details or to register call (706)791-5220.

Warrior Remembrance

Fort Gordon is scheduled to host a Warrior Remembrance Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gordon Conference and Catering Center as an opportunity to bring survivors together to share and fellowship with others who have experienced the death of a service member. Outdoor Pool opens

The Outdoor Pool and Spray Park opens May 26 and will remain open through Sept. 4. It will only be open on weekends after Aug. 6. Daily rates of $4 per person, season passes and multi-visit punch cards are available. For more information call (706)791-8053/3034.

Changes of command

The 782nd Military Intelligence Battalion is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony 8 a.m. June 2 at Barton Field. Lt. Col. David J. Chang will transfer command to Lt. Col. Matthew J. Lennox.

The 2nd Cyber Protection Battalion is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony 8:30 a.m. June 15 at the U.S. Army Reserve Center, Bldg. 14401 located at Lane Avenue and 15th Street. Lt. Col. John Transue will transfer command to Lt. Col. Javier Madrigal.

The 442nd Signal Battalion is scheduled to hold a change-of- command ceremony 8:30 June 16 at Barton Field. Lt. Col. Eric S. Anderson will transfer command to Lt. Col. David H. Burnham.

LGBT command program

The Fort Gordon Equal Opportunity Office will host its LGBT Pride Month Command Program Observance at 10:15 a.m. June 1 at Alexander Hall. The guest speaker is Dr. Lara Stepleman, a Professor of Psychiatry and Health Behavior and Director of the Educational Innovation Institute. Kids Bowl Free

Kids Bowl Free is weekly from Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 1 through Aug. 3. Each child, ages 3-15, can play two free games per day, shoe rental is not included. Kids Fishing Derby

The Kid’s Spring Fishing Derby is scheduled for June 3. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Claypit Lakes, fishing starts at 8 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place, in each of four age groups for the most pounds of fish caught. Free T-shirts for the first 300 kids. Free hot dogs and sodas will be available to each participant. Kids need to bring their own fishing pole, limit of one fishing pole per child.

Resume Prep

The Fort Gordon Employment Readiness Program will assist military spouses with their resume June 7 to prepare for the Fort Gordon Hiring Summit event scheduled June 21 - 22. If interested, call Employment Readiness at (706)791-0795.

Army Birthday

Fort Gordon is scheduled to host the United States Army’s 242nd Birthday Celebration June 14 beginning with an installation run at 6:30 a.m. at Barton Field and a cake cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. at the Barton Field Amphitheater.

Employer Panel

Employment Readiness is looking for some military spouse (volunteers) who would like to participate on an employer panel with keynote speakers, June 21 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. One of the requirement is that they would prefer a spouse who has been employed within the last year. If interested in the opportunity to provide effective feedback on employment trends and opportunities, this is a great chance. Those interested should contact Crystal Cochran at (706)791-0795, by the end of April so that we can provide additional information. I will need a firm commitment as the panel includes many key leaders.


Transition Summit

The National Transition Summit is scheduled for June 21-22. The purpose of the event is to bring National, local business leaders, Veterans Administration, Department of Labor and Soldier for Life Programs to one location in an effort to provide employment strategies and potential employment prospects for transitioning service members, family members, retirees, and veterans. The Transition Summits are also designed to educate employer recruiters and community leaders on best practices in hiring and retaining military employees, while also helping service members and military spouses prepare for the civilian workforce. Attendees will be invited to participate in a series of town hall-style panel discussions, networking receptions, employment workshops, and a capstone Hiring Our Heroes job fair. Reach Out and Read

The New Parent Support Program and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Community Care Clinic and Family Medicine will host the Reach Out and Read Summer Festival June 23 at the Family Outreach Center, located behind the Woodsworth Consolidated Library. The festival will focus on the importance of reading to your kids and family wellness. There will be games, kids’ activities, book giveaways and more.

Independence Day

Garden Club

Join the Garden Club and show off your green thumb or learn some new tips and tricks to use in your own little plot of heaven. Club Meetings are every third Thursday of the month at the Woodworth Consolidated Library, 5-6 p.m. Topics cover everything from planning your garden to keeping the pests off your produce and how to preserve your harvest. Indoor Pool closed

Parenting Academy

Fort Gordon Army Community Service, Family Advocacy Program and New Parent Support present a series of workshops held 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays covering different aspects of raising children. This amazing opportunity is led by Elizabeth Estey, a parenting expert with Life Management Group, Inc. A light dinner will be provided and free childcare is available for those registered with CYS.

Dress for the job

The Fort Gordon Employment Readiness Program will be hosting a Fashion Show of what to wear and what not to wear work attire in conjunction with the Military Spouse Appreciation events today. This event will be held during the day. If you are a working spouse you must make a firm commitment to ERP. You must provide your own clothes and they must be approved before the week of the event. Horse Stable volunteers

Sign up for the Hilltop Riding Stables volunteer class. This will teach you all you need to begin volunteering at the stables and the skills to care for horses. The class will be held Saturdays and Sundays and is open to ages 14 and up. For more information or to sign up, call (706)791-4864.
