Cleaning up to get dirty
The Marines of the U.S. Marine Corps Detachment at Fort Gordon clear the running trail of the 2014 Marine Mud Challenge course of debris March 20. The 2014 Marine Mud Challenge, which has been expanded to a 5-mile off road course and features more than 25 military style obstacles, is slated to begin at the corner of 19th Street and Chamberlain Avenue on Fort Gordon May 3.
The event is open to the public and registration is available at MarineMud. com. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place teams. There will also be a Children’s Mud Challenge for children ages 5 to 12-years that features a one-mile off-road trail with seven child-size obstacles. Parents may accompany their children on the trail during the event that will begin at 8 a.m. Children who register by April 25 will receive a customized ‘dog tag’ and tee shirt.
