Natural Resources Branch hosts special opportunity turkey season
Wyatt Grosvenor, 12, from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is seen with his first-ever wild turkey that was harvested March 16. The gobbler weighed 21.25 lbs. and had an 11.25 inch beard with 1 3/16 inch spurs. The wild turkey is being checked in by Larry Estrada, Fort Gordon Game Warden. Wyatt and his 14-year-old brother were hunting with their uncle and cousin, participating in the first ever Youth Turkey hunting season on Fort Gordon. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources established a special opportunity turkey season this year for youth (16-years of age or younger) and mobility impaired persons on March 15 and 16. Fort Gordon had six youth participate in the early season hunt with one gobbler being harvested. The regular turkey season will begin March 22 and continue through May 15.
