February is the month of love and the Fort Gordon Thrift Shop is sharing it by offering a 25-cent sale during First Saturday Feb. 1. The shopping event is from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features 50 percent off Thrift Shop-owned coats, shoes and formal wear in addition to the 25-cent sale on Thrift Shop-owned clothing. Military clothing, furniture, house wares and books are excluded.

“Spring is almost here so it’s time to think about clothes for warmer weather,” said Stephanie Lainez, manager of the Fort Gordon Thrift Shop. “At First Saturday’s 25-cent sale, you can get new summer clothes while saving a bundle on winter clearance items.”

The Fort Gordon Thrift Shop features three large buildings filled with gentlyused goods, all offered at rock-bottom prices. Fresh clothes and furniture arrive at the Thrift Shop every week, so shoppers can always be assured of finding something eye-catching.

“First Saturday is a great opportunity to consign items too,” said Lainez. “Consignors set the price on their items and receive up to 70 percent of the sales price, a deal unheard of at most consignment and thrift stores.”

The Fort Gordon Thrift Shop sells furniture, clothing, toys and crafts and offers them all tax-free. It also sells coasters customized for military branch and unit, handmade decorative signs, Fort Gordon-themed blankets and ornaments, and cookbooks.

Operated by the Fort Gordon Spouses’ & Civilians’ Club, the shop is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the First Saturday of each month (October through May) from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations are accepted during business hours as well as at the donation bin located next to the shop. DOD cardholders may consign items every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and First Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Profits from the Thrift Shop go toward annual scholarships and grants for community organizations and military dependents. In 2013, the Thrift Shop’s success helped the club award more than $20,000 in scholarships and grants.

The Thrift Shop is located in Building 39102 behind the Exchange in the Brems Barracks near Avenue of the States and 40th Street.

The Fort Gordon Spouses’ & Civilians’ Club is an active part of the Fort Gordon community that leads service projects, operates the Thrift Shop and provides volunteer opportunities, special events and activities. A private nonprofit organization, the club is not affiliated with Fort Gordon or the U.S. Army. Membership in the club is open to anyone affiliated with Fort Gordon.
