Ordnance Association to host annual Veterans Day Run
Registration is now open for the 11th annual Ordnance Association Veterans Day Run to be held on post Nov. 2.
“This event raises funds for the local Fort Gordon Christmas House charity, as well as provides scholarships for worthy individuals seeking to further their education,” said 1st Lt. Alexander Ameter, executive officer of 73rd Ordnance Battalion, Company A headquarters.
According to Ameter, the run will consist of a 10k route that circles the post. Trophies will be awarded to the best times in all age groups.
“ We really want to make this a community event,” he said. “Every year it gets bigger and this year we want to have the biggest.”
Registration is $25 up until the day of the run and $30 on the day of the event. Discounts are also available for teams.
“A team of five runners can register for $100, organizations with 50 to 99 runners are $18 a person, and groups of 100 runners or more are only $17 per person,” Ameter said.
As previously noted, all proceeds will go either towards the Fort Gordon Chris tmas House or toward the association’s scholarship program.
“The Christmas House charity helps struggling parents provide gifts for their children during the holiday season, and the scholarships are granted by the association to deserving, qualified applicants,” Ameter said. “We have raised over $11,000 dollar for the charity and scholarships since the run started, with nearly 500 runners participating last year. This year we are aiming to expand the event even more, with a goal to double last year’s totals.”
Registration is available online until the day of the race. On Nov. 2, in-person registration will open at 6 a.m. For more information or to register, visit www.FGOCA.com.
