Navy Region Southeast command master chief visits NIOC Georgia
Ellis toured different areas of the command and met with several groups of Sailors, including the funeral honors detail. He noted, “The service that NIOC Georgia funeral honors detail provides to the entire Navy Region Southeast area of responsibility is amazing. To have collectively travelled more than 15,000 miles in support of giving honor and respect to those that have gone before them is admirable.”
Ellis’ visit also included a physical training session with the NIOC Georgia CPO- 365 participants, an all-hands call, and a luncheon with the NIOC Georgia leading petty officers and CPO-365 first class petty officers. There he held an informal question and answer session with the LPOs who are charged with leading, training, and mentoring almost 1,000 junior cryptologic Sailors at the command.
“This is one of the best CPO-365 programs we have in all of Region Southeast,” said Ellis. “The key is the fact that it focuses on the development of the first class petty officer specifically. Not only on the future chief.”
Command Master Chief Petty Officer Larry D. Howard, command master chief petty officer, NIOC Georgia agreed. “ The number one priority of our CPO-365 program is to build a successful leadership team with our wardroom, chiefs mess, and first class petty officers,” said Howard. “Our program is designed to build a strong foundation on all leadership levels.”
Ellis charged the LPOs to give the example junior Sailors need, right before their eyes. “First classes have more visibility and hearing than the chiefs. Your Sailors get face time with you,” Ellis said. “That is your chance to be the example and lead.”
This visit marks the first time a Navy Region Southeast command master chief petty officer has visited NIOC Georgia.
